Leadership Team

Joel Rioux, Principal

Dr. Joel Rioux, brings over 30 years of distinguished experience in Montessori education and Indigenous teacher development across Australia. His career reflects a deep commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive pedagogy and educational leadership.

Dr. Rioux began his journey as a Montessori educator, working for 18 years in various urban settings throughout New Zealand and Australia. He later spent eight years at Wadja Wadja High School in Woorabinda, Central Queensland, where he established a pioneering Montessori program tailored for adolescent Indigenous students.

His dedication to Indigenous education continued at the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE) in Darwin, where he served for 11 years as a lecturer and researcher, supporting preservice Indigenous teachers in tertiary education. During this time, he completed his doctoral studies at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), focusing on science education—specifically zoological classification—and its integration with Indigenous and Montessori methodology.

Since January 2023, Dr. Rioux has served as Principal of Montessori Noosa, where he leads with vision, integrity, and a passion for nurturing lifelong learning. His leadership is grounded in the Montessori philosophy and enriched by decades of experience in research, curriculum development, and community engagement.

Amy Doyle, Curriculum Leader and Registrar

Amy is an experienced Montessori educator with over 14 years in the field. With a background in Ecology and Statistics, she began her teaching career in Wellington, New Zealand, where she trained as a Secondary Teacher before specialising as a Montessori Guide for adolescents aged 12–18.

With curriculum expertise in Mathematics and Science, Amy is also deeply passionate about curriculum integration and has taught Visual Art and Design for several years. Her holistic approach fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning across disciplines.

In 2014, Amy relocated to Melbourne to help establish the foundations of a new Secondary College at Melbourne Montessori—now a thriving International Baccalaureate (IB) program. In 2020, she moved to Queensland, continuing her commitment to innovative, student-centred education. Amy also brings valuable experience in tertiary education, having taught Applied Statistics at Monash University and served as a Teacher Trainer for Montessori Australia, supporting educators in developing authentic Montessori practice at the adolescent level.

Having developed two adolescent programs, Amy now lends her varied experience and expertise as our Curriculum Leader and Registrar.

Tim Robbins, Business Manager

Tim comes to us with 20+ years of experience as a business manager and accountant, with a track record in streamlining processes and a keen interest in delivering insightful reports through improved software utilisation.

Born and raised in the UK, Tim graduated from the University of Manchester before relocating to London to progress his career in the education and healthcare sectors. After a short stint in Bristol as a freelancer, he emigrated to Canberra in 2012 with his family where his interest in the tertiary sector led him to a number of management roles in a high school and at the Australian National University. Two years in Wellington followed with a role at the Royal New Zealand Ballet before returning to Australia and residing in southeast Queensland.

Tim is currently the Business Manager and Board Secretary at Montessori Noosa and is passionate about the child-centred philosophy and environment within which Montessori schools operate. His responsibilities at the school include finance, human resources, governance/compliance, IT and facilities.
